Hoover was one of about 25 students in Harrisons drafting class who were working to come up with graphic designs for various construction projects. First, we physically draw out what we want to design on a piece of paper and then we start creating it on the computer, Hoover said. It becomes one piece of paper that shows all of the projects lines and dimensions. Its kind of like the directions, said Tessa Guzman, 16, a sophomore in the same drafting class. A lot of our projects turn into other classs homework and projects. We map out the directions, and they use them to create something. Guzman and Hoover said theyve designed chess boards, wooden tables, nuts and bolts in the drafting class so far, several of which then were constructed by Harrisons design and manufacturing class, where students have built desks, bookshelves, large sheds and cutting boards. Just outside Harrisons door, another – much louder – class was underway in the wood shop. Safety-goggled students worked in small groups to cut wood into various shapes and pieces in Hodgerts beginning woods class. One student was putting the finishing touches on a coat rack; another worked to smooth the sides of a square piece of wood. Meanwhile, across the courtyard, Chris McGowan instructed a Women in Engineering class, where students worked to determine how to best soundproof their teachers room. As the 36 young women searched the Internet for echo-reducing materials, they began listing items for McGowan to pick up: cork, Styrofoam and noise-canceling paint all were candidates for purchase; McGowan wasnt revealing which one would work best.

Joseph Kyrillos of Monmouth County announced Tuesday night that he will not seek reelection next year, signaling the end of a career in the state Legislature that began almost three decades ago. A Republican, he was one of the youngest state legislators ever elected when he first took office as an assemblyman 28 years ago, at age 27. He was a longtime friend and confidant of Governor Christie until the two had a falling out in recent years. Kyrillos, 56, a former Republican Party state chairman who lives in Middletown, is in his eighth term as a senator, first serving in that position in 1992. He said he plans to step down at the beginning of 2018, at the end of his present term. It has been the greatest privilege of my life to serve the people of my district and the State of New Jersey in the Legislature, Kyrillos said in a news release Tuesday night. Ever since I was a kid growing up in Monmouth County, Ive always believed that public service is an important and noble profession. He indicated that he might run for office in the future or assume another public role someday. He also said he had some frustrations serving as a member of the minority party in the state and with the current political process. The senator did not expand on those thoughts. Last year Kyrillos rebuked Christie over the oversight of the Port Authority, mentioning the George Washington Bridge scandal. He then threw his support behind Jeb Bush to be the Republican nominee for president instead of Christie.

The Best Advice For Landing The Perfect Job

In tough economic times, many people are unemployed. Finding even small jobs has now become next to impossible for many individuals. Homelessness and bankruptcies have increased in recent years due to a lack of decent jobs. Do your best to get above this. Continue reading to learn how to find not only a job, but a great one.

When you are job hunting, dress for success, no matter the job. People usually think that someone who’s dressed nicely is better for the job. You do not need to dress to the nines, but you do need to look successful, even if you’re just filling out an application.

You have to do well with your current job, even when looking for a different one. Not doing your absolute best can cause you to have a bad reputation. Your potential employers could hear about it as well. Succeeding will depend on you doing your best.

Use the resources that are offered to you by LinkedIn. The Q&A section of a company website is a great place to help you show off your expertise. You can also ask other users about their experience in their jobs, industries or companies.

You should dress well during your interview. This is true even for a casual establishment. Even though the company may allow employees to dress casually, you should dress more impressively for the interview.

Dress for success for your job interview. Make sure that the clothing you choose is appropriate, and that you pay attention to the smaller details, such as your hair and nails. You will be judged by your neatness, so make sure you are presentable.

When answering your phone, be as professional as you can. Give your name clearly, along with a greeting appropriate to the time of day. Your friends and relations may be surprised, but your potential employers are sure to be impressed.

Use the employer’s insurance plan for your health insurance needs. Your part of the cost comes out before taxes and will be cheaper than any plan you could purchase on your own. If your spouse is offered a plan through his employer, compare the two plans to find the best plan for the money.

You really need to give off a good vibe during your job interviews. Stay positive and wear a smile. This will make a positive impression during the interview and can impact the hiring decision.

Understanding the right way to handle interviews requires you to visit in advance. Find out where you will have to park ahead of time to save time when you get there. Where are you entering the building? Where is the office? The worst thing you can do is be late, so figure everything out ahead of time and plan on being 10 minutes early.

Even if you are not currently seeking a job, attend local job fairs or career events. This will keep you up to date on the latest in the job market, as well as offering potential opportunities that you may not have know about.

It is important that everything in your resume is true. Rather than lie about this event, simply omit it. If your employer finds out that you lied it could result in you being fired.

You must never make any negative posts online about your current or past employers anywhere for any reason. Many companies today look online to see what type of posts you make before they will hire you nowadays. By not making comments related to work, you don’t have to worry.

Don’t get to your interview more than fifteen minutes ahead of time. Review any necessary materials about current industry news or business topics. http://rockscarlettreynolds.prosportsmall.com/2016/10/23/handy-interview-programs-guidance/Knowing current events will help you look knowledgeable to an interviewer. It is also a great way to break the ice.

Never do stuff on the computer at work that you wouldn’t want to show your boss. Even though you may be the only one authorized to use your work computer, it is still owned by your employer. As a result, the company is privy to all activity on the computer. You can get in trouble if you are wasting time on the computer instead of doing the work required of you.

Consider meeting with your previous employer. Your former boss may provide you with some business contacts, or information on positions that are available. If you left the previous company on a good note, then they will likely be able to point you in a great direction.

Print Edition Photo by Alex Kormann / The Daily Tar Heel The student body will vote on Friday to decide whether student government and the Graduate and Professional Student Federationwill split and become two separate forms of student governance at UNC. The student body already voted on this issue in the spring 2016 election. On Oct. 21, Dylan Russell, president of the GPSF, requested an emergency meeting of Student Congress to make changes to the upcoming ballot. In an email to members of Student Congress, Russell requested a meeting to change two things on Friday’s ballot. First, he askedto lower the threshold needed to pass the “Two for Two”referendum from two-thirds of the student body to just over 50 percent of the vote.Second, he said the organization of the ballot should be changed to make itclearer for voters. Cole Simons, speaker for Student Congress, denied the request. Related Content Take a Glance at new social app Hopspot SPONSORED 10/13/16 4:49pm “With this in mind, due to time constraints as well as logistical restraints placed on us (by) those who manage the voting portal, we will not be having a last minute special session to write, debate, attempt to understand and implement a new voting system three days before an election because of other’s procrastination,” he said in an email. In an interview,Russell said this election was an opportunity and defining momentfor the graduate and professional student body. This University needs to define what student self-governance looks like for graduate and professional students, he said. What currently exists is an organization operated by undergraduates where the needs, desires and wants of graduate and professional students are completely missing from the picture. The original ballot in the spring election had voters rank their preference in a list of threeoptions. The choices wereBetter Together, which would make reforms but avoid a split; Two for Two, a separation between the governing bodies creating two student governments;or simply no change. The election resulted in “TwoforTwo” getting 50.2 percent of the vote, but since it needed two-thirds of the vote, it was not passed and no change took effect. GPSF filed a lawsuit against the Board of Elections following this outcome, saying the language of the legislation was hard to understand and thus the outcome was unfair. UNC’s Supreme Court decided to hold a re-election this fall . Russell said he requested the emergency meeting with Student Congress prior to the election thisFriday to make sure that there is an even playing field between graduate and undergraduate studentgovernance at UNC. Simons said ifRussell requested the meeting sooner, they would have been happy to discuss the possibility of making these changes. I think there was a realization that they very well could not get the votes they need, so any changes to that could be beneficial, and I think theyre scrambling to try and make it work, Simons said.

Rabbi Janet Marder leading Torah study at Congregation Beth Am in Los Altos Hills photo/david a.m. wilensky Microphones are passed around the room so each speaker can be heard. As she calls on each person, Marder knows most of their names. This crowd is as likely to bring up a New York Times op-ed by David Brooks as a point of relevance as they are to bring up a different passage of Torah. Marder manages the time deftly, a warm and considerate listener but, in the face of many hands in the air and a ticking clock, firmly keeps things moving throughout the hour-long session. Shes also funny, and so is her audience. So homogenous is this crowd in appearance that two outliers stand out clearly. The first is a tall man with a long beard, peyos hanging from the sides of his head, blue-and-white tzitzit hanging from under his shirt; he sits eagerly in the front row. And, way in the back, a large black guy in a white T-shirt had come rigorously prepared; he set up a T.V. dinner-type tray in front of his seat for his breakfast and his copy of the Torah. I was also told about one man who takes copious notes each week.

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump debating (Justin Sullivan / Getty) After the fact, representatives of all the fallen candidates told me that none of it was inevitable, and that Trump could have been stopped if any of the others had imagined that he would go as far as he did. If you put any of us in a time capsule and told us a year ago that he might be the nominee, then each candidate would have tried to prevent it in their own way, Alex Conant, the communications director for Rubios campaign, told me after Trump had locked things up. We all thought that the summer of Trump would not last. So our early strategy was not just to ignore him but actually to try hard not to offend his supporters, so we could be the alternative to him when he inevitably went down. He largely got a free pass until it was too late. Tim Miller, who worked for Bush, agreed that the other non-Trump candidates were more intent on finishing one another off than attacking him when he might have been vulnerable. By the end, Marco was scoring points against him, Miller said. Before his humiliating loss to Trump in his own state of Florida, which forced him out of the race, Rubio was attacking Trump for his ignorance about policy and mocking him on hand size and blowhard traits. But Marco was already sinking by then, so it was from a position of weakness rather than strength. The rest of them were convinced that Donald Trump didnt need to be defeated, Stuart Stevens, who was Mitt Romneys campaign strategist in 2012, told me. That was a convenience, because they didnt have to take him or his supporters on. With Jeb and Rubio, it became like the Bosnian civil warmore into killing each other than winning. Meanwhile, Trump cruised ahead. No one can say whether an earlier attack might have finished off Trump.

The Tamale Factory will cater the white-tablecloth event, Wright said. It will be a first-class affair. “Duck hunting is a gentleman’s sport, and we want to make sure this party has that spirit of Southern class and gentlemanship,” Wright said. “There will be none of that New Orleans style stuff, with the beads and all that. If you want to bring your 14-year old daughter, you can feel comfortable with that.” Based on the value of the prizes and proceeds from the number of entries, the event has already far surpassed expectations, Wright said. The Augusta Chamber of Commerce only had about $7,600 in its bank account, but it takes about $18,000 to hold such an event. As of Wednesday, Wright said, organizers have raised $104,754.
